My story...finally putting a period on it.

Fast-forwarding again…after about 6 years of marriage my weight reached 267 lbs. I can’t say that this was all a part of being depressed, but throw in my love for food, “they made clothes in a size 22,” and I didn’t feel bad about myself, well I packed on the pounds. During a visit to my doctor for some “female issues” she asked if she could do a complete physical including labs because the symptoms I described were indicative of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Long story short, one of the reasons my weight loss efforts were minimal at best were hormonal (I failed to mention to her my poor eating habits…lol) because of the PCOS and uuuuhhhhhh…diabetes. “No she didn’t just say I had diabetes and she is going to put me on metformin to help with my PCOS and help with my insulin levels.” So, I sat there and cried. My doctor being the wonderful physician she is (I truly mean that) said to me ”get over it and do what you KNOW your supposed to be doing; stop eating things that come through a drive thru window, stop with the sweets, eat more fruits and vegetables, and EXERCISE. You’ve lost weight before and you can do it again. Now, your life really depends on it.” BAM, there it was!

That day changed my life. I re-enrolled in Weight Watchers and started at the YMCA. I really focused on cardio like step aerobics, elliptical, treadmill, etc. I found loving in spin classes and even found lovin’ in light jogging. My husband joined in and we vowed to be better examples for our children, who are also overweight. We made healthier food choices, cutting down (not out) on snacks, cutting out carbonated soda, and red meat.

Today…well, I have successfully finished P90x and ready to do it again. I ran my first 5k and ready to do another. I am now 208# (as of 6/17/2010 weigh in) and my size 16 shorts are getting baggy. I have so much energy and the sex…ooooh weee, the positions we have tried since all the belly fat is out of the way…TMI? Sorry…lol However, I must admit that I still indulge in chocolate (in moderation) and have made the mistake of trying Starbucks Coffee and I WAS not a coffee drinker. Well, that is something else I will do in moderation…no whip…soy milk…lol

Although I gave the abbreviated version of my story, I hope that someone is inspired to LIVE LIFE WELL.

Peace & Love,

Butterfly

P.S. Once I start P90X again, will keep you posted on how round 2 goes. Until then, my thoughts will be totally random.

Our stories are so similar. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago and was diagnosed with diabetes just last year. I didn't go through a period of being upset about the diabetes; in fact, I feel it is the best thing that could of happened to me because it forced me to take care of myself. I am so inspired by your weight loss and I really enjoyed reading this.
